Egolf Moves to Give New Rights to Citizens

Rep. Brian Egolf, D-Santa Fe, said citizens from his county would adamantly oppose the bill. Egolf introduced HB 219 to help land owners resist oil and gas production by forcing companies to provide 30 days notice when negotiating production leases with subsurface mineral owners.

“Most people are unaware that they can’t control extraction of minerals under their property,” Egolf said. “This gives them advance notice and information about mineral owners. They can then make counter offers to buy mineral rights, or perhaps influence where and how activities are conducted.”
